Hi, I'm Chris Beach, a graduate of the University of Bath. In September 2005 I joined an investment bank in London, where I'm working as a software developer.
As you've probably guessed from this site I'm a geek at heart. I love anything technical, scientific, photographic; whatever! I'm also a keen windsurfer, and play badminton regularly. I like drawing and listening to smooth funky music. I write some of my own music, which isn't quite as smooth! Home cinema is a passion, and I collect DVDs
Interests: windsurfing, badminton, poker, programming, web development, clubbing, electronica, gadgets, drawing, home cinema
Age: 28, Status: Taken, Town/City: London

I've not tried interhost but from the above I don't think I want to! I've been with 1and1 in the past and was tempted to try hostgator for a VPS.
I now have a VPS with switchlink (www.switchlink.co.uk) and haven't had problems with them. Support keep me up to date if anything is going to happen which is pretty good. I've had one bout of downtime for scheduled maintanence, which i got a warning about a week before it was going to happen.
Did have a problem with inodes? i had too many files on, but they sorted this for me too with no extra charge.

Thanks for posting this forum. I cannot say emphatically enough how BADLY 1&1 SUCKS. They are nothing but thieves. Their hosting service was mediocre at best and for every add-on it was alle-carte; they charged for everything. Their web mail is the worst product i have ever used.
I canceled by restricting my auto payment on Paypal to them. When they notified me, I told them to cancel the account and that the payments had been shut off, so I did not give a crap what they did. They then threatened to put me in collections!!!
Imagine that! These scam artists with a reputation of continually billing customers who have canceled their accounts threatening to put a person with perfect credit into collections because I was smart enough to put the auto payment on Paypal where I could control it.
DO NOT SIGN UP WITH 1&1 - THEY ARE THIEVES AND THEIR SERVICE IS A RIP OFF.

You guys are young! I have experienced the same thing, twice. As kids, we build super-regenerative receivers/transmitters with tubes! The 954. We ran around with them, tied to a bunch of batteries, excited by being able to talk across the street, sometimes when the frequency was somewhere in the neighborhood of the right one.
The 1N34 crystal diode for a crystal receiver, cost a weeks pocket money, about $2. Fortunately, the AM transmitter in Stockholm had some 300 kW...
Then came what Chris describes and I recognize some of it, especially the painfully downloaded programs and DOS.
Now, here we are. I have a beautiful set of tools, a nice Myford 7 bench lathe with many accessories, two bench drill presses, sander, circular saw and a LOT of hand tools and even more good old electronic instruments and components. A Linhof Technika IV with two lenses and backs. Model Diesel motors, several complete radio controls with batteries and servos... I also have two sons who are not interested in it!
What I would have "given an arm and a leg" for, when I was young, seems not very interesting today.
What to do? Am I too old or are they too young, at 22 and 19?

Please everyone stay away from this terrible company, no telephone number, no email support! and its nearly impossible to leave! sounds like a nightmare doesn't it...well listen to what most of us on here are saying...don't be lured by the low prices...its just not worth it. I have finally managed to transfer out to another provider...in the end the server i was on decided to revert to a trial version and then eventually stopped working...
The WORST host
