They have been harrassing me for 5 months now for a payment in the region of £20. It relates to a service I never signed up for, never received and know nothing about. The only response is that I need to provide a customer number, and seeing as I didn't sign up to anything I don't have it - smart people these.
Long and short is never use these guys at 1&1, they are a bunch of scammers without a shred of professionalism - other than ripping people off.
1and1 are a complete joke, and their phone system is just set up to make you wait while you pay them even more money for the priviledge.
Jason payne you will soon put ur monies in your namesake (pain/payne), remember you was warned.the guy david(no probs in 6 years),how long you have worked for them is that?.its nonsense that all these ppl hav these multiple problems with service & quality but yet david hasn't had a SINGLE problem with them in SIX years,Yeh right an I'm friggin dorris day geeza.
I went to a solicitor a few years ago to see if I could sue 1 & 1 and was told that their conditions of sale were so complicated that I would be wasting my time. I walked away and went to Fasthosts - who have since been taken over by 1 & 1! The Fasthosts support people are excellent. But since 3 p.m yesterday (20 hours ago) all my servers have been inaccesible through Virgin who say that they are having problems resolving 1 & 1 because of a problem on a 1 & 1 German server. This is a cheap end monopoly which needs to be broken up now that the internet industry has matured and polarised. You can't run small business like this - ergo you can't run Britain like this. They almost put me out of business a few years ago, now they are doing it again. Where is the resilience in thier system? Or maybe it's about money. Who knows? It's a stupid way to run an economy and yet again I am going to find myself unable to buy groceries because of it.
Recently came across 1and1 myself. Evening doing a simple thing with a htaccess file turned into a total saga - 2 phone calls and several emails without resolve. Documented my experience at http://www.web-design-talk.co.uk/410/appreciating-your-web-host/

1&1 hosting have driven me to using Prozac! Lousy customer service and outsourced incompetent staff.
